Mike Staples is a systems engineer, West Point graduate, and former U.S. Army officer who has spent his career building and fixing operations that other people depend on. After graduating from West Point, Mike served as a UH-60 Blackhawk pilot and Company Commander, leading soldiers in high-stakes environments where precision and accountability weren’t optional. He went on to earn his MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, then spent the next decade scaling operations at some of the country’s fastest-growing companies, including Uber, Amazon, Cruise, and Rev, where he was known for launching new markets, turning around underperforming operations, and building teams from the ground up.
Mike’s path to The Roof Resource started the way it does for most homeowners: with a bad experience. After hail damage forced him to replace his own roof, he did everything right, got multiple quotes, vetted his contractor, worked with his insurance company, and still ended up paying far more than he should have for a partial system with unresolved attic ventilation issues. The problem wasn’t a dishonest contractor. It was that no one had ever explained to him what a quality roof should include, or what a fair price actually looks like. He remembers thinking, “There has to be a better way.” That experience is the reason he brought The Roof Resource to Central Texas, to give homeowners the information they need to make confident decisions about one of the biggest investments in their home.
Mike is an active member of the West Austin Chamber of Commerce, where he serves on the board, and also volunteers his time supporting a veteran-focused nonprofit. He coaches his daughters’ sports teams, loves the Austin food scene, and is rarely far from a conversation about either. He brings the same engineering mindset and operational discipline that defined his military and corporate career to every homeowner he works with – but the mission now is personal: treat people the way he wishes he’d been treated.
Mike lives in Austin with his family, in the same Central Texas community he serves every day. His daughters attend local schools, and he’s proud to be a familiar, trusted face in the neighborhoods where he works, not a stranger who shows up after a storm and disappears once the check clears.
